What the brand does, and what the location has to do
Every franchise system draws the line a little differently, so start with your agreement. In most home care systems the split looks like this:
- Usually the franchisor: brand standards and logo use, the national website and its location pages, national and regional advertising, approved templates and print pieces, and sometimes lead routing to locations.
- Usually the franchise owner: the location's Google Business Profile and reviews, local content where the system allows it, referral development with hospitals, rehab facilities, senior living, and attorneys, community events, intake speed, and caregiver recruiting in the territory.
The gap between those two lists is where locations stall. A strong brand gets a family to search the name. It does not get a discharge planner in your county to call you first.
Local search for each franchise location
When a family searches “home care near me,” Google ranks locations, not brands. Two locations of the same franchise can rank very differently a few miles apart. What separates them is local:
- A complete Google Business Profile with the right primary category, the real service area, hours, photos of the actual team, and steady new reviews. See our guide to the Google Business Profile for home care agencies.
- A location page with real local content, not the franchise template with the city name swapped in. Services offered at this location, towns served, the local team, and answers to local questions, starting with cost.
- Consistent name, address, and phone number on every directory listing, matching the brand's format.
- Reviews from families in the territory, asked for every time care is going well, following the FTC rule on reviews.
Our local SEO guide and Google Business Profile guide cover each item, and home care SEO explains the full program. For franchise locations, the question to settle first is which of these your franchisor manages and which you are allowed to change.
AI search and the franchise location page
Families now ask ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google’s AI Overviews questions like “how much does home care cost in Deerfield, IL.” Those tools pull answers from pages that state them clearly. A national brand page rarely answers a local cost question. A well-built location page can. See how GoCareSignal approaches AI search, and the client results on our AI search agencies comparison.
Referral development is the franchise owner’s job
The brand cannot visit the case managers at your hospital. Referral relationships are built by someone in your territory, on a written route, with a reason for every visit and a fast answer every time a referral comes in.
What this looked like for one franchise owner. Mark McDermott owns four Touching Hearts at Home franchise locations in Upstate New York. His agency enrolled in GoCareProsales training because, in his words, “we didn’t have a formal program.” His agency has since promoted a trained team member to regional sales manager to supervise other sales staff. Read Mark’s story.
For multi-location owners, the same structure scales: one ranked account list per territory, one route per liaison, and one manager reviewing the numbers weekly. Our referral development guide and the full list of home care referral sources are the place to start.
For franchisors: marketing that supports the whole network
A franchisor’s marketing has a second customer: the franchise owners. When the national website is slow and the location pages are thin, owners start building their own sites, and the brand splinters in search.
What we built for one network. A Better Solution In Home Care, with 29 listed locations in 15 states, needed a website that could support the entire network. Its existing site was outdated and slow, and franchisee websites lacked strong search optimization. ASN built a new national website that highlights local offices, directs inquiries to them, and is structured for SEO and AI search, along with plug-and-play online marketing programs franchise owners can use. Read about the launch or see the full case study on GoCareWebsites.
What a franchisor should give every location
- A location page each owner can enrich with local services, towns, team, and answers, inside brand rules.
- Clear rules on what owners may change on their Google Business Profile, and who owns the login.
- Approved templates for referral source materials, so owners are not designing their own.
- A lead routing system that gets an inquiry to the right location in minutes, and reporting each owner can see.
- Training for the person in each territory who visits referral sources.
How to choose a marketing agency for a home care franchise
Ask any agency these questions before signing: Have you worked within a franchise agreement before, and what did the franchisor approve? Will you report results by location? Who owns the Google Business Profile and website access if we part ways? Do you also work with another franchise of the same brand in my market? Our comparison of top rated home care marketing agencies includes firms that focus on multi-location and franchise groups.

Can a home care franchise owner hire an outside marketing agency?
Often yes, within limits set by the franchise agreement and brand standards. Many systems let owners run their own local search, referral development, and community marketing while corporate controls the brand, the national website, and approved creative. Read your agreement and ask your franchisor what requires approval before you sign with anyone.
What marketing does a home care franchisor usually handle?
It varies by system. Common franchisor responsibilities are brand standards, the national website and its location pages, national advertising funds, approved templates, and sometimes a lead routing system. What corporate rarely does is build relationships with the discharge planners and social workers in your territory. That work stays local.
How does local SEO work for a franchise location?
Each location needs its own accurate Google Business Profile, a location page with real local content, reviews from families in that territory, and consistent name, address, and phone number everywhere it is listed. Franchise location pages that repeat the same paragraph with a new city name rarely rank. Specific services, service areas, staff, and local answers do.
Do you work with franchisors as well as individual owners?
Yes. For a franchise network we have built the national website and set up plug-and-play marketing programs that individual owners can use. For individual owners we run local visibility, referral development training, and websites where the agreement allows one.
